Trojans Score Early To Defeat MAC Foe UV 1-0

By: Meagan Schulz

GREENE – Two of the top four teams of the boys’ soccer Midstate Athletic Conference standings went up against each other on the Greene Trojans’ pitch Thursday night. Greene’s Nolan Butler found the back of the net early in the game and it proved to be the game winner for the Trojans as they defeated the visiting Unadilla Valley Storm 1-0.

The win for the Trojans comes after their first league loss of the season to Delhi earlier this week.

Butler’s goal was unassisted and came in the first half of one of the first 17 shots Greene riffled off in the direction of UV’s Brandon Kneale.

Kneale was strong after the goal went past him, stopping 14 in total for the contest.

His opposition between the post at the other end, Greene’s Nick Shoemaker, made two saves in the win.

Greene (10-2-1) hosts Sidney at 11 a.m. Saturday while the Storm take some much needed time off after three games in as many days. Unadilla Valley’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m. against Delhi – another team sitting in the top four of the league’s standings.
