NORWICH – More than 160 runners and a number of volunteers showed up to participate in the first ever Chenango County Recovery and Wellness 5k Glow Run/Walk on Saturday.
The race began at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Norwich Fairgrounds and was proceeded by an awards ceremony for the winners of each age group. The event was organized by the Suicide Prevention Coalition and Improve Norwich Now. Numerous volunteers from organizations all over the county including; Healthy Chenango, United Chenango, Improve Chenango, and Smart Recovery out of Broome County attended to show their support for the initiative. Officials said the first annual glow run was promoted to raise awareness for substance abuse, suicide prevention, and mental health treatment in the local community as well as to remove the stigma behind asking for help.
