Tenney and Brindisi take campaigns to Norwich ahead of midterms

NORWICH – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R–New Hartford) and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D–Utica) both visited Norwich on Monday to thank their supporters and make one last push for office in the 22nd Congressional District ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections.

From the Chenango Republican Committee Headquarters and Chenango County Democrat Committee Headquarters, Tenney and Brindisi both thanked the people in attendance for their support and highlighted that they both believe they will win the race if they have a high voter turnout.

Tenney said to supporters that polls show her with a slight lead over Brindisi, but noted when she was elected in 2016, most polls showed her down by 3 percent. She said, "This race is close, it's going to come to turnout ... Honestly if we get our voters out, we're going to do great. And this is good for us in the future, not just for not getting our taxes raised, avoiding two years of impeachment, and Maxine [Waters] taking over my committee."

Brindisi thanked his supporters for canvassing in the area and noted he is 'neck and neck' with Tenney, and said, "In a race like this that's really so close, the difference is getting our voters out there on election day, and we need people to do that ... We're going to win [Tuesday] night and we're going to win because we've had the people on our side the whole time. My opponent can bring in any Washington insider she wants to, but what really matters is what’s happening in places like Norwich and all across the district, today and tomorrow."

Tenney discussed the top issues she said she has heard about from constituents, including medicare, pre-existing conditions, and social security. She said she co-authored an amendment to the American Healthcare Act with Congressman Greg Wald (R–Oregon) to refocus resources to people who have earned their healthcare and to people with pre-existing conditions.

"All of that was covered but that's the scare tactic because Democrats do not want to talk about the tax cuts and how well they're working in our community," said Tenney.
