This year, the air will resonate with another voice, too, from the Train Deport, the sounds of African drumming led by Elizabeth Orleski.

Orleski, who operates Drumzzone in Endicott will lead three drum circles on traditional African drums, starting at 11 a.m., at 12:30 and 2 p.m.

According to the performers, the joy and power of playing percussion instruments from around the world together is at the core of Drumzzone’s mission to young and old, as she has worked with day-care programs, senior centers, and corporate events putting people in beat with each other.

“It's really fun, no musical background is necessary, and anyone can do it,” said Orleski.

Also in the Depot, this year the Town is featuring the fine bird carvings of Roger Foote, a retired teacher and Town of New Berlin councilman.

According to event organizers, Foote calls himself a “country carver” but has taken workshops with some of the nation's leading instructors, including Roslyn Daisy of Newark, Delaware and Al Jordan of Rochester. A prolific carver with over 2,000 pieces to his credit, Foote also has assembled an impressive collection of other’s work, as his own birds join collections throughout the US and Europe.
