Petrutoni, Bobcats Run Past Hornets In Season Opener

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford senior Nick Petrutoni racked up more than 100 yards on two touchdown runs in the first quarter alone to send the Bobcats to a 32-14 victory over Harpursville/Afton in the opening game of the 2018 football season Friday night.

Petrutoni scored on a 37-yard rush less than a minute into the game and added one in the final minutes on a 78-yard run. B-G led, 12-0, going into the second quarter.

The senior scored four of the team’s five touchdowns and had 11 carries for 204 yards, averaging 18.5 yards per carry. He had one reception for 18 yards.

The team totaled 295 yards. Alan Terzo had five carries for 23 yards and Garrett Ives had six carries for 18 yards

Quarterback Evan Hyzer went 2-for-7 for 23 yards.

Harpursville/Afton cut the lead in half shortly into the second quarter on a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Zach Gardepr. He led a balanced Hornets rushing attack with 17 carries for 57 yards.

Petrutoni answered with a 4-yard run with three second left in the half to make it 18-6.

Quarterback Brody Oleksak hit Zach Fynboe for a 24-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for Harpursville/Afton to bring it within four points after the two-point conversion. Gardepr took it in for the points.

It was the final ones for Harpursville in the game. The Hornets had 248 yards and were led by Oleksak’s 77 yards on 7 for 20 in the passing game.

Luke Merrill had 45 yards on the ground off of five carries, leading the team at 9 yards per carry. He caught three passes for 26 yards.

Petrutoni scored on a 47-yard run in the third followed by a two-point conversion from Hyzer to make it 26-14. Ives completed the game with an 8-yard score in the fourth quarter. The sophomore led the defense with an 11-yard interception return. He had five tackles and an assist. Parker Lord had six tackles and an assist.

B-G (4-0) will play at Cohoes on Saturday at 1 p.m. Harpursville/Afton will host Delhi at 1 p.m. Saturday.
