Deposit/Hancock 60, Afton 30

AFTON – Afton’s Casey East completed the night with double-double in points and steals but the game ended with a Deposit/Hancock 60-30 win over the Crimson Knights Tuesday night.

East scored 13 points and wound up with 10 steals despite the loss.

D-H’s leading scorer, Laycee Drake scored 16 points, which is on the lower side for one of the section’s best. But that was in large part to Afton’s Abby Beaulieu tasks of guarding Drake.

“Abby [Beaulieu] played Drake man to man and did a good job,” Afton head coach Lacy Stanton said. “Drake in some foul trouble early on because of Abby’s defense and that helped.”

Afton scored a combined 11 points after the first two quarters because of a rought shooting night for the Crimson Knights. Afton found themselves in a 20 point whole at the half and was determined to do anything they could to close the gap.

The Crimson Knights shooting picked up in the second half but the first half defecit was too much to overcome for the home team.

Deposit/Hancock’s Malorie Rutledge finished with a game-high 17 points in the win, with most of her effort coming from the the three-point line. Rutledge knocked down four in the contest from behind the arc.
