MORRIS – Playing in the consolation game after a tough loss of the Morris tournament Thursday, Oxford took the win over Hunter-Tannersville 53-50 on Saturday afternoon.

Blackhawks’ Jason Davis led the team in the first half with 11 of his game-high 19 points. But in the second half, Hunter-Tannersville made a defense adjustment by double and triple teamming Davis, only allowing him to score from the free-throw line.

Oxford’s scoring didn’t slow down though. Jacob Murrer and Brad Beckwith took advantage of the defense focusing on Davis, combining for 19 points in the second half.

Hunter-Tannersville scored 19 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Blackhawks.

Murrer finished with 13 and Beckwith recorded 11 on the night. Davis nearly completed a triple-double as he ended the afternoon with 10 rebounds and nine blocks to go along with his 19 points.

Oxford hosts Greene on Wednesday for a MAC Conference match-up. Tip is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
