Marauders Soccer Falls To Waterville In Double OT

WATERVILLE – The bright lights were shone on the visiting Sherburne-Earlville Marauders boy’s soccer team on Monday night. By the end of the tightly contested match, the Waterville Indians prevailed by a final score of 3-2.

The Marauder offensive was well received early in the first half of play as S-E’s Kyle Cole worked his way into Waterville territory before crossing a pass to teammate Jonah Robertson who swiftly finished the pass for the first goal of the game. Waterville’s persistent offense did however, return fire later in the half. The Indian’s Austin Hutchins left two S-E defenders in the dust sending a scorching pass to Dustin Fuller. Fuller slipped a shot past goalkeeper Conor Ryan, knotting the game at one a piece.

The second half played out in exciting style as Hutchins assisted on yet again another Waterville goal as Joseph Misiaszek collected the pass, before scoring the second Indians goal, evidently putting Waterville ahead 2-1. Refusing to be deterred, S-E’s Kyle Cross referred back to dishing out assists sending a pass to striker Owen Rodriguez who found the back of the net for his first goal of the year. Rodriguez’s first goal proved to be an important one, equalizing the contest at 2-2, sending the game into overtime.

After the first overtime period gone, the two clubs went back to war. And what a battle of the pitch the second overtime proved to be. With blistering defense on both sides, Austin Hutchins played the role of hero for the hometown Indians. Hutchins playing the role of facilitator most of the night, spoiled the night for the visiting Marauders as he scored the game winner, after picking up a loose ball near the top of the penalty box Hutchins turned the hustle play in for a goal.
