BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats hosted the Greene Trojans on Thursday, Feb. 17, for the completion of the MAC League tournament. The Bobcats secured a fifth place finish when they defeated Greene by a scoreline of 55-41.
“Good start and good fourth quarter, finished strong,” said B-G head coach Brad Aldrich Sr.
The Bobcats did in fact play a solid first period where they managed an 11-5 lead after the first eight minutes. The Trojans would find a spark on their offense in the second period – Greene's Erickson snagged seven of his eight points to help the visitors to 17-9 second period, subsequently taking the halftime score to 22-20 in favor of Greene.
Defending their home court, and ensuring momentum going into sectional play – the B-G boys went back to the drawing board at the half. With a new-found vigor to the team, the Bobcats returned to grab a 12 point third period before attacking the net in the fourth for a 23 point end to the game – a pace the Trojans couldn’t match, only scoring 19 in the second half.
Leading the team in scoring for the home win, was B-G's Trevor Halaquist who snagged 16 points, while teammate Sean Jones pitched in 14 points of his own. On the Greene side, the Trojans were led by Erickson and Smith who each grabbed seven a piece in the loss.
Moving forward, both B-G (10-9 overall), and Greene (8-11 overall) will be seeing sectional action. Greene was drawn in as the 11th seed in the Section IV Class C tournament and will play Union Springs (13-6) on the road on Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. The B-G Bobcats were drawn in as the 13th seed and will be on the road facing off against Elmira Notre Dame (14-6) on Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in Endicott.

DEPOSIT – The Oxford Blackhawks boys basketball team completed their MAC tournament schedule in style with a big win over Deposit – by a score of 56-47.
The duo of Jason Davis and Austin Crawford proved to be just what Oxford needed to rip off the upset win on the road. Davis snagged a career night in the win when he dropped seven of eight three-pointers as he raced to a 32 point game and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Austin Crawford complimented Davis with 12 points of his own
This tandem helped rip off a big push from the get-go as Oxford amassed an 18 point first period before cooling some before half – only snagging 12 in the second period. The Blackhawks successfully led Deposit 30-26 at the halftime break.
Although they never were able to attack the net like they had in the first, Oxford would tighten things up down the stretch outscoring Deposit in the fourth period 14-7.
“Big fourth quarter for Crawford when they tightened up on Jason,” said Oxford head coach Tim Davis.
Crawford scored six of his 12 points in the game in the final period to help Oxford to the road win at 56-47.
Interestingly for the Oxford boys (8-10 overall, 12th seed), they will get a rematch with Deposit (12-6 overall, fifth seed) in the Section IV Class D tournament. Oxford will see their first game in sectionals be a road game at Deposit on Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.
