Norwich defeats Chenango Valley 56-30

BINGHAMTON – The lady Tornado traveled south for a road game against the Chenango Valley Warriors. The fight that is expected from a 'Warrior' was simply nonexistent from CV in the contest – as the Tornado ripped through their ranks for a crushing win at 56-30.

26 points, a monster number right out of the gates – as the Warriors were simply blown away by the power of the lady Tornado. Up 26-11 after the first period, it was the defensive efforts that stole the show as the game progressed into the halftime break. Taking their foot off the gas – as a win seemed inevitable early on – Norwich looked to tighten their defense, to which they did shutting out CV in the second period. A goose egg on the scoresheet for the Warriors coupled with 10 additional points for the Norwich girls had Norwich cruising at the half, as they were up 36-11.

Managing to not be outscored in the second half – scoring one more than CV at 20-19 – Norwich hit cruise control as the win over Chenango Valley on Feb. 2, gave Norwich their twelfth win of the season.

Norwich, (12-5 overall), will next see action home on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:45 p.m., when the lady Tornado host rival Oneonta for their senior night celebrations.

Bainbridge-Guilford defeats Oxford

OXFORD – Two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to overall records for the season – the undefeated Bainbridge-Guilford girls varsity basketball team mopped the floor with the lady Blackhawks, winning by a score of 71-13.

This lopsided affair in Oxford on Feb. 1, saw the lady Bobcats run away with the game – as they easily defeated the struggling Blackhawks with just one period of scoring – this is no knock on Oxford who gained their first win in multiple years earlier this season and has shown promise in their play. However, league leading and state-ranked Bainbridge-Guilford is simply in a different basketball realm at this point in their season.

Surprisingly for the game, the most competitive period came right out of the gates – as although B-G led by 16 points at the end of the period – Oxford was able to score a game high eight points, as B-G took the lead at 24-8.

Oxford's two leading scorers on the night saw all their points come in this first period – as Hannah Ryan snagged two fouls to go 4-4 in the period; while Katelyn Diamond saw her opportunity at the basket grabbing two field goals.

However, 24 points is 24 points, and this huge first period ultimately proved to outscore Oxford's entire offensive performance in the game. B-G took the lead the the half at 38-13.

The lady Bobcats enjoyed three players hit the double-digit mark in the contest, as leading scorer Abigail Selfridge grabbed 14 of her team high 24 points in the first half. Selfridge was aided by Jillian Cannistra with 15 points and Megan Palmatier with 14 – both of who saw the majority of their points come in the first half.

B-G emerged from the half to drop 33 unanswered points on the lady Blackhawks – 19 points in the third, 14 points in the fourth – as the defense held Oxford to no points in the later half.

With questions on both ends of the court, and another loss on the season at 71-13, Oxford will look ahead to their next game when they travel to Unadilla Valley high school on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:15 p.m. This game against the 4-12 Storm will be Unadilla Valley's senior night.

Bainbridge-Guilford will be home next for a game against Greene on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:15 p.m.
