• The Oxford boys varsity basketball team has slid into some losses during the past few outings with the most recent coming to Gilberstville Mount Upton this past Friday.
Oxford hosted GMU on Dec. 23, only to lose a close one at 47-39. The difference was the play in the first half as Oxford could only muster 16 total first half points – six in the first and 10 in the second – while GMU racked up 26 points total.
The Blackhawks would emerge with a newfound vigor in the second half, matching GMU in the third only to finally outscore them to end the game. However, this second half push of 23 points was not enough to overcome the early hole they had dug, as GMU kept pace with 21 of their own taking the win at 47-39.
Leading Oxford in the loss was Adhi Viswanthan who recorded 15 points throughout the game – while on the other side it was the duo of Ethan Butts with 22 points and Hunter Lockwood with 15 who did their damage against the Blackhawks, to ensure a GMU victory.
Next up for Oxford (2-4 overall) they will play later on this evening when they travel to Marathon on Dec. 27, at 7 p.m. the junior varsity will play in Marathon at 5:30 p.m.
