Valley Heights Drops First Two Games

By: Cameron Turner

NORWICH – The Valley Heights Christian Academy girls varsity basketball program has sunk themselves into a 0-2 deficit to start the the 2016-2017 regular season after losses to Finger Lakes Christian Academy and Cortland Christian Academy.

Both road losses came within a relatively close margin of scoring for VH, who dropped their first loss to Finger Lakes on Dec. 2, by a score of 32-28; before VH traveled to Cortland on Dec. 6, only to suffer a slow start to the game before battling back for a final score of 43-30.

“Slow start put us behind, but (we) finished strong,” said Valley Heights Christian Academy head coach Sarah Moore.

With a halftime lead of 29-8 Cortland looked to be running away with the game, however, as coach Moore attested two back-to-back periods in the second half of 11 points a piece would draw VH back within distance of Cortland.

Leading the charge for Valley Heights was Emily Davis and Savannah Bresee – Davis accounted for 16 of the 30 total points scored while Bresee grabbed the remaining 14.

In the game against Finger Lakes, Valley Heights found themselves up 18-14 at the half, but would see a dip in their free throw accuracy in the third – missing all five opportunities – a margin that would have helped in their close loss at 32-28.
