Race Holds New School Record, After He And Conant Break Taylor's Record

CORTLAND – Norwich varsity indoor track impressed when they went on the road for their first meet of the 2016-2017 season, earning some solid times while breaking the same school record not twice.

The 55 meter dash was where Norwich stole the show on the day, as Norwich's Zack and Race and Eric Conant each broke the previous school record, set by Patrick Taylor at 7.00 seconds.

Zack Race and Eric Conant each ran in heat two of the final's heat – after qualifying for the finals with times of 6.81 and 6.97 respectively – where Race finished in second behind Binghamton's Sincere Williamson who ran a time of 6.60.

Despite Race's second and Conant's sixth place finish for the two Tornado athletes, both would impressively shatter the previous record, however, the new record will officially go to Race who will hold the new record at a time of 6.71 seconds. Conant finished with a time of 6.96 seconds.

Sprint Medley Relay: Norwich's relay team of Connor Nial, Eric Conant, Zack Race, and Noah Bufalini – raced to a third place finish in the event out of twelve teams.

600 meter run: Noah Bufalini would impress on the day with a fifth place finish in the event with a time of 1:35.31, as he was the lone Tornado to place in the top ten.

55 meter hurdles: Connor Nial would return to his hurdles with a solid tenth place finish when he leaped his way into the top-ten with a time of 9.80.

1600 meter run: Norwich's Michael Cardoza enjoyed the most success on the Tornado side in the event with his 14th place finish with a time of 5:32.43.

800 meter relay: The Norwich team of David Berger, Noah Bufalini, James Heath, and Connor Nial raced to a solid third place finish in the event, when they posted a finals time of 1:45.68 – losing to Binghamton at 1:39.59 and Corning at 1:44.91.

Long Jump: Conant managed to the have the most success in the event for Norwich, despite only finishing in 16th, Conant did managed to crack the 17' mark when he landed at 17'10”. Conant was followed closely in the standings by teammates James Heath and David Berger who finished at 20th and 21st with jumps of 16'07”, and 16'03.50" respectively.
