BAINBRIDGE – The Bobcats varsity boys basketball team has now slid to an 1-2 record after playing three games in the past week span.
BG opened their 2016-2017 season playing South Kortright on the road on Nov. 29, to which they were handed a tough road loss at 71-36. The loss came at the hands of South Kortright's leading scorer number 12, who managed a monster 26 points against the Bobcats.
On Dec. 1, BG would find their way into the win column with a championing win over Hunter-Tannersville Central at 49-43 in the Mokay Tournament in Delhi. With a halftime score of 20-19, the close matchup would come down to the wire. However, the Bobcats emerged from the half to post two solid periods of scoring – 14 and 15 points receptively – earning them the win. Leading BG in scoring for the day was Trevor Halaquist and Sean Jones who each grabbed 13 points in the win.
Despite the win, to even their record at 1-1, BG would slide back into the losing column when they faced Delhi the very next day on Dec. 2, as they lost in a blowout at 70-38 in the tournament finals.
The short-lived win the previous night would not carry on, as BG fell to a 18-36 deficit at the half. Failing to climb out of their halftime hole, BG would claim the loss – posting scores of 12 and 8 points to close out the Delhi game. Jones would again lead the offensive charge for the Bobcats as he grabbed an additional 12 points in the loss on Saturday. Jones two performances earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team.
“Struggled on the offensive end, turnovers and missed layups,” said BG head coach Brad Aldrich Sr. “They were very quick and we were rushing, not comfortable with their quickness.”
Up next for Bainbridge-Guilford (1-2 overall) will return to practice for the week as they have no scheduled games this upcoming week.
