Bobcats Claw To New Heights, Reaching Semifinals Before Slamming To Halt With A Loss

By: Cameron Turner

LANSING – The boys varsity team of Bainbridge-Guilford will go down in school history following with the completion of the 2016 season, despite the 3-0 loss they suffered to Lansing.

“This is the furthest we (Bainbridge-Guilford) have ever gotten in sectional playoffs, ever. Made it to the quarterfinal I think twice, and lost,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Peter Feltham. “Two years ago we got knocked out in the last minute of the quarterfinals to Spencer VanEtten, so yeah this is our first time to a semi.”

And with that first experience – and with one step closer in the right direction in 2016 – Feltham's Bobcats will conclude their hopeful season with a loss at the hands of number two-seeded Lansing.

Lansing jumped out to a strong first half of play over B-G during Tuesday's, Oct. 25, sectional matchup.

Lansing saw goals come from three different athletes in the first half of play – Ryan Besemer, Nick Parkes, and Taylor Overton.

The outmatched Bobcats offense attempted to keep pace with Lansing in the contest, but an opportunistic home squad had other plans for the feisty Bobcats.

“We were just trying to lock down the defense. We knew they were a very skilled technical team. We did a real good job of locking them down, but anytime we had a hiccup, they capitalized. There just wasn’t any room for error, they are a solid team,” said coach Feltham.

The second half of play would see no scoring from either teams as B-G would fail to complete the push for the comeback, finishing with just two shots on goal and no corners. For Lansing in the win their offense enjoyed a day consisting of 10 shots on goal and nine corners.

Standing in goal for the last time for B-G was senior Sean Jones. Jones walks away from high school soccer as B-G's record holder for most shutouts in a season at seven. Notably Jones tied the record of seven in 2016, which he had set the previous season as well.
