Hull runs for four TDs as Marauders rout the visiting Wildcats

SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders varsity football team earned their first win on the season when they crushed the visiting Adirondack Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Senior Matt Hull would lead the charge on the ground as he amassed an impressive 134 yards on the ground off of just 14 carries en route to a four touchdown performance in front of his hometown crowd.

Hull was joined by a stable of backs for the Marauders as they combined for 366 yards total in the contest off of just 44 carries, for an average of 8.3 yards per carry on the day. Notably sophomore Lincoln Owen would lead the team in rushing with his impressive 2016 home debut racking up 142 yards on the ground off of a mere nine carries.

S-E would see early success following an opening quarter in the game which featured two Matt Hull touchdowns to raise the Marauders to a 12-0 lead after the first quarter. Hull would return in the second quarter to tack on the third of his four touchdowns expanding the lead to 18-0 at the half.

Adirondack would answer back, finally getting points on the board with a touchdown of their own in third quarter, as well as tacking on the extra-point for the 16-7 game. However, the fans would feel the energy from their hometown Marauders as third quarter would see two touchdowns and a safety go in favor of S-E – two yard rushing touchdown from Vinny Albertina (10-47 yards on the day), a Jessy Lynch sack and subsequent safety for two-points, followed by a Jake Kwasnik six yard run (1-6 yards on the day).

Now up 34 points over the Wildcats, Hull would return for his final touchdown – ripping off a 33 yard run – before being pulled prematurely from the game due to the score.

Defense would not be forgotten in the offensive showcase that S-E was putting on for their fans, as Lynch would reach the end-zone, this time for S-E by way of a forced fumble and 14 yard runback of said fumble for the final score of the 47-7 route of Adirondack.

“Our kids took a big step forward. We were physical and aggressive, that's the style we like to play. Big difference from a week ago,” said S-E head coach Ed Holmquist referring to the loss on opening week that S-E suffered at the hands of Tully at 27-20.
