NORWICH – The Chenango County Court convened for an afternoon session on Monday, August 1, where the case of William M. Polhamus was heard. Assistant District Attorney Laura Parker represented the people of Chenango County in the case, while Polhamus was represented by defense attorney Alyssa Congdon. The Honorable Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. presided over matters
It was alleged that Polhamus acted in concert with another defendant, Nicholas Neer, to conduct more than an estimated 10 burglaries. The pair were subsequently apprehended for committing two burglaries in the Town of Greene, as well as one burglary in the Town of Oxford.
Polhamus was indicted in February, 2016, for burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; two counts of burglary in the third degree, a class D felony; and two counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
In an agreed upon disposition with the DA's Office, Polhamus agreed to enter a plea of guilty to count one and count three of his indictment, charging him with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; and burglary in the third degree, a class D felony.
After he was sworn in, Judge Revoir read Polhamus the first count of his indictment. It alleged that on or about November 30, 2015, at a residence on Painter Hill Road, in the Town of Oxford, Polhamus stole a variety of items, including multiple crossbows, from the victim's residence. In further colloquy, Judge Revoir questioned the defendant on his alleged actions that day. Revoir asked, “Did you, in fact, go in to this residence?” Polohamus replied yes. Polhamus continued to describe how his co-defendant kicked the door in, and stated that the items recited were those that were taken.
