NORWICH - A Chenango County grand jury met earlier last week to determine indictments for the month of July, 2016 and subsequently decided that there was enough evidence against six individuals to charge them with at least one felony level crime.
• Gregory F. Huzinec Jr., 36, of Norwich, was indicted on four felony counts. Huzinec was charged with one count of robbery in the first degree, a class B felony; one count of burglary in the first degree, a class B felony; one count of kidnapping in the second degree, a class B felony; and one count of assault in the second degree, a class D felony.
The first count alleges that the defendant, on or about July 7, 2016, at approximately 5:30 in the forenoon, at 15 Lackawanna Avenue, in the City of Norwich, did forcibly steal $60 in US currency, a cell phone, a driver's license, a medicare card and cigarettes from the victim while displaying what appeared to be a pistol and threatening to kill the victim.
The second count alleges that the defendant, at the aforesaid time and place, did knowingly enter and unlawfully remain in the residence of the victim with the intent to commit a crime therein and did commit the crime of robbery in the first degree while displaying what appeared to be a pistol, threatening to kill the victim. During the commission of the crime, the defendant did steal property, previously mentioned in the first count, belonging to the victim.
The third count alleges that at the aforesaid time and place, the defendant did abduct the victim against their will by duct taping their hands and feet together and did threaten to kill them with a knife and what appeared to be a pistol.
The fourth count alleges that the defendant, in the course of committing robbery in the first degree, did strike the victim in the right eye with the butt of what appeared to be a pistol, causing the victim's eye to become blackened and swollen.
• Antonio A. Totten, 54, of Norwich, was indicted on two felony counts, as well as three misdemeanor counts. Totten was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.
The first two counts allege that the defendant, on or about June 24, 2016, at approximately 1:40 p.m., at the Norwich Motor Lodge, located at 5688 State Highway 12, in the Town of Norwich, did knowingly and unlawfully possess 31 vials of the narcotic drug cocaine and two wax envelopes of the narcotic drug heroin, with the intent to sell it.
The third count alleges that the defendant, at the aforesaid time and place, did possess metal knuckles.
The fourth and fifth counts of the indictment allege that at the aforesaid time and place, the defendant did knowingly and unlawfully possess the controlled substances cocaine and heroin.
• Nathan P. Fairchild, 30, of Norwich, was indicted on two felony counts, and one misdemeanor count. Fairchild was charged with one count of sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony; one count of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class D felony; and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The first count alleges that the defendant, on or about the month of January, 2016, in the City of Norwich, at 23 Cortland Street, did subject a 9-year-old to sexual contact.
