Narcotics Possession, Police Evasion Among May Indictments

NORWICH – A Chenango County grand jury met earlier last week to determine indictments for the month of May, 2016 and subsequently decided that there was enough evidence against six individuals to charge them with at least one felony level crime.

• Samuel Rivera, 45, of Guilford was indicted on four felony charges, as well as two misdemeanors. Rivera was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; one count of criminal nuisance in the first degree, a class E felony; and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Guilford, on April 20., in the Town of Guilford at approximately 2 p.m., did possess one plastic bag containing a chunky substance, the narcotic drug cocaine; and did possess 20 plastic wraps containing the narcotic drug cocaine with intent to sell. Rivera was also found to be in possession of 280 packets of the narcotic drug heroin, with intent to sell.

The criminal nuisance charge alleges that Rivera allowed individuals to gather in his residence, and did benefit monetarily from the sale of illegal drugs.

• Terrell S. Jefferies, 24, of Johnson City was indicted on two felony charges and one misdemeanor. Jefferies was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony; and criminal mischief in the third degree, a class E felony; and unlawful fleeing a police officer in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Jefferies, on April 17, 2016 in the City of Norwich at 1:47 p.m. on South Broad Street did allegedly recklessly operate a motor vehicle while a marked police vehicle was attempting to stop him. Jefferies did recklessly pass vehicles on the right hand shoulder of the road and did swerve in and out of traffic, causing a grave risk of death to others. Jefferies was clocked at going in excess of 65 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone.

The criminal mischief charge alleges that Jefferies did damage a Norwich Police Department vehicle by striking it with his 2004 Cadillac that he was operating at the time of the incident. Damage was done to the front push bar and front bumper of the NPD patrol vehicle with the damage estimated at $671.

• Duane G Hollenbeck, 47, of Pitcher was indicted on one felony charge, and one misdemeanor charge. Hollenbeck was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony; and assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Hollenbeck, on April 14, 2016, and while in the Town of Pitcher at 381 State Highway 26, and with intent to cause physical injury to the victim in this case, did drive his 2015 Nissan Juke – a motor vehicle and dangerous instrument – into the victim. This allegedly caused a contusion to the right knee of the victim, which caused pain and discomfort.
