Norwich
ITHACA - The Norwich indoor track team traveled to Ithaca on Saturday, December 12, to compete in the Ithaca Bomber Invite.
After a great day of competition, four Norwich athletes stood above the rest. Norwich’s David Bernstein placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 57’10’’. Bernstein’s throw broke his own school record and the Section 4 record and qualified him for the Indoor Track National Meet.
Bernstein also competed in the shot put and threw a 48’8.5’’, breaking his own school record and placing third.
Also competing were Ben Ericksen who placed seventh in the 3200 meters with a 10:28, Kaitlyn Shaver, who placed third in the shot put with a 34’3’’ throw, and Emily Shattuck who placed ninth in the 55 meter dash with a 7.73.
Basketball
Bainbridge-Guilford/Unadilla Valley
SHERBURNE - Competing in the Sherburne-Earlville tournament, the Bainbridge-Guilford girls’ varsity basketball team and Unadilla Valley competed this weekend.
The two teams met on the second day of the tournament with B-G coming out the victor after an impressive showing.
Things were close after the first quarter of play, with B-G up 13-10 on UV early. B-G’s Abigail Selfridge got things going for the Bobcats as she scored seven of her 23 points in the first quarter.
As the game went on things only got better for B-G and by the time the second quarter was over they had increased their lead to 28-19.
The third quarter was the best for B-G defensively, only allowing two points all quarter from UV. The game would continue with this trend as B-G began to rack on the points.
The game ended after a 12 point quarter from B-G, pushing the score to its final at 58-27.

Bainbridge-Guilford/Greene
GREENE - In a Chenango County battle, the Greene boys’ varsity basketball team hosted Bainbridge-Guilford. The home team truely had the advantage as they would win 65-47.
The game started off a little slow as the two teams would get to know each other. After the first eight minutes the score would stand 9-6 in favor of Greene. Greene’s short lead wouldn’t last long as they would explode on offense for 24 points in the second quarter. Greene’s Luke Day would lead his team in the second quarter with seven of his team high 15 points.
After a 33-14 half in favor of the Trojans, Greene would keep up their scoring for another 25 points in the third quarter. B-G would find the basket for 15 third quarter points, but would still be outscored by Greene the rest of the game. Leading B-G in the second half was Trevor Halaquist. Halaquist scored all 17 of his points in the second half.
Down 58-29 it was all but over for B-G going into the final quarter. The Bobcats would score 18 in the fourth, but it would be too little too late as the game ended with the final 65-47 in favor of Greene.

OXFORD - The Oxford Blackhawks got revenge on Saturday, December 12, beating the same Elmira-Notre Dame team that they lost to last week. This time around things went Oxford boys’ way and the home team won 42-23.
