BAINBRIDGE - On Friday, September, 18, the Unadilla Valley Storm traveled to Bainbridge to take on the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats. After the final whistle blew and the dust settled UV came out on top 64-8.
To start off the first quarter Unadilla Valley would come hard and fast at the Bobcat defense and march downfield twice for two separate scores. The B-G defense couldn't do much to stop UV that night as they racked up 383 yards of total offense. The Bobcat's offense couldn't find a grove either, as they were stuffed at the line of scrimmage all game.
Ending the first quarter with a 14-0 lead, the UV defense settled in to try and keep their shut out alive. It wasn't long until the Bainbridge-Guildford offense finally found pay dirt on a Austin Carr pass to Zach Ouimet for 33 yards with 10 minutes remaining in the half. After a successful two point conversion things looked to be turning around for the Bobcats, unfortunately for B-G it turned out to be their only score of the game.
After kicking off, the B-G defense settled in for what would be a short drive after UV rattled off big run after big run. The Storm offense found themselves at the B-G five yard line and facing a second and goal. Nick Stirone would be given the ball and power through the defense and in for the touchdown. An unsuccessful two point attempt would bring the score to now 20-8 with just under eight minutes left in the half.
Bainbridge-Guilford would settle in for the ensuing drive at their own 45 yard line and move the ball all the way up to the UV 30. On a fourth and long B-G looked to pass to try and convert, but ended up with an interception that the Storm's Ryan Postma would return 80 yards for a touchdown with just under six minutes left in the half. The score was now 28-8 after a two point conversion.
After a three and out by B-G, the punt team came on the field and dropped back for the punt on their own 25 yard line. The ball went over the punter's head and sailed into the B-G end zone where Ethan Gray would recover the ball from the scrum for the touchdown. UV was now up 34-8 with just over four minutes left in the half.
Bainbridge-Guilford would receive the ensuing kick and would go three and out again, giving Unadilla Valley the ball on their own 34 yard line after a punt. With little time left the UV offense would march down the field relying on short yardage runs. With seconds left on the clock UV was now down to the B-G two yard line. Mike Patrick was given the ball and scampered up the middle for another Storm touchdown. The two point attempt was good and UV was now up 42-8 at the half.
The start of the second half was much of the same for the B-G offense which couldn't find their footing. UV would only score twice more in the third quarter. Once on a long time consuming drive off of a 14 yard run with 6:38 left in the quarter and again after they recovered their own squib kick on the very next kick off. The second touchdown was much like the first in which the drive was long and calculated. UV would rattle off short yardage gains to keep the clock running and the ball out of the hands of their opponent. With 1:52 left in the quarter, Mason Fernette would take the ball in from three yards out for a UV touchdown. The score was now 56-8 and would stay that way until the fourth quarter.
To start off that quarter UV’s Donte Day would rattle off a 64 yard touchdown run in what would be the final score of the game, ending the game at 64-8. “UV really dominated all aspects of the game,” said Bainbridge-Guilford coach Jim Mosher. “We only ran 34 offensive plays all game so we couldn’t really get on our feet all game.”
