CAC Announces 2015–16 Performance Schedule

NORWICH – Chenango Arts Council Executive Director Diane Batson-Smith pleased to announce the unveiling of the 40th year celebration of the Chenango Arts Council and the 16th Performing Arts Series.

“We are 40 years strong this year and both very proud and excited to be here providing services and cultural events throughout Chenango County and beyond,” said Batson-Smith.

By all accounts, this performance season promises to be one of the best yet and includes something for everyone; including a Halloween–themed illusionist, the glamour of pop–infused dance, and an evening with Samuel Clemens. Then we “take it to the streets” of downtown Norwich with the “No BS! Brass band” for May Day, 2016.

The season kicks off on Oct. 17 with Haunted Illusions with David Caserta, an evening of magic, comedy and never-before-seen illusions. You’ll be stunned and amazed as Master Illusionist David Caserta has people disappearing and re-appearing right before your very eyes. There will be tricks and more than a few treats at this magical Halloween-themed spectacular. Both young and young at heart are invited to attend.

The season takes on the drudgery of winter come Dec. 5, as CAC proudly presents “Cocktail Hour: The Show.” From Lincoln Center for Cleveland’s PlayhouseSquare, New York City’s Ballets with a Twist is reinventing the glamour and excitement of classic entertainment. The company’s acclaimed signature show – Cocktail Hour – harkens back to a time when entertainment was an engaging, vibrant social experience. Inspired by the likes of Busby Berkeley and Lucille Ball and infused with the exotic flavor of legendary Hollywood haunts Trader Vic’s and Coconut Grove, this pop-infused production brings timeless American spirits to life, launching the Mai Tai, Martini, Manhattan and more, off the menu and onto the stage. “Witty and fantastic,” raves The New York Times. “You’ve never seen cocktails like these.”

Scheduled for Feb. 27, 2016; the Council brings An “Evening With Mark Twain;” an entertaining recreation of a lecture the world famous humorist and author of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer would have given during his highly acclaimed tour in 1905. You’ll swear Samuel Clemens is alive and well in Norwich.
