Chenango Forks 91, Norwich 50 (boys)
NORWICH – Led by senior Morgan Hagenbuch and underclassmen Emily Shattuck and Katelyn Shaver, Norwich's girls blew away Chenango Forks Tuesday afternoon to wrap up a second straight STAC East division title.
Hagenbuch had four overall victories – one a relay – Shattuck picked up three first-place finishes, and Shaver again swept the throwing events taking the shot put and discus.
Freshman Caroline Stewart (triple jump) senior Kristen Slate (800 meters), and senior Martha Clemens (1,500 meters) also found the win column in individual events to aid the Tornado cause.
"Honestly, I didn't think we would put this much pressure on (Chenango Forks)," said Norwich coach Shaun Horan. "I thought we might win by 20 or 30, but to win by 58 was huge. I think that once they saw the jumping and throwing results coming in, they may have given up."
Hagenbuch coasted to a win in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump, but needed to summon every bit of her technique and speed to capture the 400-meter hurdles winning by a whisker in 1:08.5. "The kid that (Morgan beat) had beaten her last Friday in Oneonta," Horan said. "Morgan has been pushing hard for 1:11s, so to drop 2 1/2 seconds today was big for her."
The Tornado boys came up short in their bid for a division championship as Forks captured all but three events to win going away.
NHS junior David Bernstein swept the shot put (47-8) and discus (142-11), and Ben Ericksen was first in the 3,200 meters (11:44). Bernstein's victories came on the heels of last weekend's state meet-qualifying discus throw of 149 feet.
"We knew Chenango Forks had a strong team, but I guess we didn't realize how tough they would be," Horan said. "There really wasn't much shifting around that we could have done. They have a lot of depth and experience, and they brought their 'A game' today."
Norwich competes in the Vestal Invitational Friday.

Baseball
Oxford 17, Delhi 4
DELHI – Oxford overcame a three-run deficit in the first inning to roll past Delhi in Tuesday's non-league game.
Delhi nicked up Oxford starter Kevin Davis for three runs in the first inning. From there, it was all Oxford.
The Blackhawks scored six runs in the top of the second on just one basehit. The first five batters in the inning reached on walks to score two runs, Corey Marshman drove in one with a sacrifice fly, and after a hit by pitch, Nick Neer's groundball resulted in an error scoring two more runs. Davis' single scored the last of the half-dozen runs.
Richard Ryan came on in relief of Davis pitching six solid innings for the win. Ryan struck out 10 and allowed just four hits.
