Golf Tournament Sunday To Raise Suicide Awareness, Funds

By: Ashley Babbitt

OXFORD – A golf tournament is to be held this weekend in an effort for Team Chenango to raise funds for suicide prevention and awareness.

The Captain and Crew style tournament is to be held Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Blue Stone Golf Course in Oxford.

Registration for the tournament begins at noon, and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m.

The proceeds are to benefit Team Chenango. The team members travel to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk.

Danielle Marshman, who has organized the fundraising events for Team Chenango in the past, has said this will be the last year the team does a fundraising event.

“I want to be able to express my appreciation to the community for all the support they have given Team Chenango throughout the years,” said Marshman.

Marshman said she will continue to do the 18 mile Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk each year, and she welcomes anyone to join her.

“Throughout the past five years we have raised more than $40,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for the Overnight Walk,” said Marshman. “It makes me so happy to say that we have contributed such a great amount from such a small county.”
