Norwich 3, Johnson City 2

JOHNSON CITY – Norwich snapped a two-game skid and evened its record on the season defeating Johnson City on the road Monday.

The Purple Tornado produced their best hitting performance of the season racking up nine basehits. The bottom-third of the order kick-started a two-run rally in the fourth that gave NHS the lead for keeps.

Hannah Eddy, moved to the fifth spot in the lineup, led off with a double, and advanced on Stephanie Meyer's fielder's choice. Allison Yacano then tied the game with her first RBI single of the season.

Later in the inning, Shannon Moore doubled in the go-ahead run. Moore finished 3-for-4, and Eddy went 2-for-3. "Right when I didn't think we would get things going, the bottom of the order came through for us," said Norwich coach Scott Moore.

Johnson City threatened to tie the game in the seventh when Norwich pitcher, Eddy, induced a game-ending flyout with two Wildcats runners on base.

Norwich plays at Susquehanna Valley today.

Sherburne-Earlville 12, Canastota 9

CANASTOTA – Down most of the game, Sherburne-Earlville rallied in the sixth and seventh innings for its first win of the season Monday.

Miranda Wright completed the rally with a three-run homer in the seventh giving the Marauders the lead for good. "We showed patience and were able to put the bat on the ball with runners in scoring position," said S-E coach Michelle Parker.

Wright went 3-for-5 with five RBI, and Sierra Barker was 2-for-3 with a double.

Canastota led 4-0 at the outset with multiple extra-base hits and 15 hits for the game. "Canastota hit the ball hard, but we just played a little deeper and adjusted to their hitting," Parker said.

S-E (1-1) hosts Adirondack Wednesday.

Unatego 7, Greene 0

OTEGO – Jake DeJoy and Tanner Winchester combined on a four-hit shutout in Monday's victory over Greene.

The Spartans scored two in the first and three more in the third to build a big lead. "We were three plays away from making it a closer game," said Greene interim coach Pete Mansheffer. "We hit the ball hard today, we just didn’t have anything to show for it. I can’t complain. We did make some nice plays, and Ben Kinney made a highlight reel catch in left field diving toward the foul line.”
