Norwich Girls Third At Newark Valley

Red, White, Blue, and Gold Meet at Newark Valley

NEWARK VALLEY – Norwich's girls placed third overall in team scoring with 52 points behind Ithaca and Vestal and the Red, White, Blue and Gold Meet at Newark Valley Saturday.

Norwich was buoyed by two first-place two second-place, and one third-place finish to rack up the points. Katelyn Shaver won the shot put and freshman Caroline Stewart captured the long jump to top the Tornado.

Shaver posted a throw of 35 feet, 4 1/2 inches to easily win her event by over two feet. Stewart led a one-two Norwich finish leaping 15-11 1/2, while teammate Morgan Hagenbuch was just six inches back. Stewart was also second in the triple jump (33-6 1/2) and Hagenbuch added a third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.11 seconds). Stewart was subsequently named the meet’s most valuable field performer.

On the boys' side, Norwich's David Bernstein was second in the discus with a throw of 146 feet, 9 inches; and Thomas Reilly was third in the shot put (43 feet, 8 inches).

OXFORD – Alea Tiffany and Kassi Cook had four hits apiece for Deposit, who scored 12 in the opening in Friday's win at Oxford.

Kassi Cook tossed a four-hitter to earn the win striking out 12 Blackhawks.

Baseball

Mount Markham 12, Sherburne-Earlville 7

SHERBURNE - Sherburne-Earlville was limited to just three hits by Mount Markham pitcher Collin Maine in Friday's loss to the Mustangs.

Maine fanned 15 S-E batters lifting his team to its first win in four starts this season. Maine was also 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, and lead-off hitter Dillon Bleaking had three hits and three runs scored.

Gavin Paul had three RBI for S-E and Ian Fleming finished with two RBI and two runs scored.

Deposit 4, Oxford 0

OXFORD – Deposit did most of its damage in the first inning to back the pitching of Dustin Dailey in Friday's shutout win over Oxford.

Dustin had 10 strikeouts and allowed three Oxford hits, and the Lumberjacks' defense did not commit an error "Dailey was very efficient, and the Deposit defense was fundamentally sound," said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. "We were able to hit the ball hard a number of times, but had nothing to show for it."
