NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley reached double-digit wins and extended its winning streak to four games Tuesday beating Oxford.

UV (10-4) topped Oxford for the second time this season, and this time around was much more closely contended. “They put a lot of pressure on us defensively, and I thought (Oxford) played well,” said UV coach Matt Osborne.

A strong third quarter allowed the Storm to extend their halftime lead to 15 points. Guard Dylan Thomsen’s penetration into the lane afforded UV good shot opportunities.

Otselic Valley 67, Brookfield 33

BROOKFIELD – Otselic Valley made it three straight victories Monday night soundly whipping Brookfield.

Sophomore Jordan Baerga hit four three-pointers scoring a season-high 20 points to lead four OV players in double figures scoring. Jason Olin added 13, Matt Neal scored 11, and Austin Reynolds tickled twine for 10.

“We had good defensive intensity throughout the game, and we limited their shots on offense,” said OV coach Dave Loomis, whose club improved to 8-6. “On offense, we’re finding people better, and we’re getting out in transition, which makes it easier to put points on the board.”

Girls’ Basketball

Sherburne-Earlville 57, Waterville 44

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville junior center Lilly Berg produced one of the highest scoring nights in Sherburne-Earlville girls’ basketball history in Tuesday’s victory over Waterville.

Berg had 34 points and 16 rebounds in a rematch with Waterville from a week ago when the Marauders ground out a 39-34 win. “We got some good looks from the outside, we just didn’t make them,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan.

The Marauders didn’t need the outside shot, and for the first time this season, did not make a single three-pointer. Berg did the bulk of the scoring around the basket, that despite double- and triple-team coverage during the final quarter. “I thought we showed a lot of patience against their zone and working it in to Lilly,” Mulligan said. “Every time we passed it to her, something good happened.”

Lexi Elderkin charted eight points, and Stacia Beckwith contributed on the boards finishing with 14.

The Marauders host Holland Patent Friday.
