Norwich 40, Oneonta 31
NORWICH – Norwich wrestling coach Terry Hagenbuch drew up three different possible lineups for Tuesday night’s home dual meet with Oneonta.
He chose the correct one.
“I told the guys there is about five different ways it could go, but the bottom line is that we needed to win our matches,” Hagenbuch said.
Norwich closed the meet with wins in each of the final five bouts to offset three forfeits it rendered to the Yellowjackets.
Dalen Geislinger (113) began the run with a pin; Ty Rifanburg (120) picked up a takedown with less than 10 seconds remaining to nip Mitchell Spaziani, 2-0; Dustin Marvin (126) won in his season debut pinning Parker Atkins; Carter Hubbard (132) rallied from a 2-0 deficit after two periods to defeat Tony Pentaris, 8-3; and freshman Brennan Slater (138) scored a 4-0 decision over Rumeal Soler.
The loss for Oneonta was just its second against Section IV competition this season, while Norwich improved its own dual mark to 14-4. “They can fill all 15 weights and we can only fill 13 – 12 tonight,” Hagenbuch said. “We knew we had to move people around, and they had to win.”
Elijah Rodriguez (99) overcame a shaky first period to rout Nick Dower, 20-7; Dalen Geislinger picked up a slick pin at 113 pounds, and Tornado seniors Tristan Rifanburg (160) and Frankie Garcia (170) bumped up weight classes to earn pins.

Morris 48, G-MU 39
COPES CORNERS – G-MU shaved 11 points off its initial loss to Morris, who edged away from the Raiders in the fourth period.
G-MU, losers by 20 to the Mustangs its second game of the season, trailed by four to start the fourth, and had a three-pointer rim in and out that would’ve pared the deficit to one. “That (three) was 85 percent of the way in,” said G-MU coach Greg Bonczkowski. “That goes in, who knows what happens.”
Ryan Morlock spearheaded the Morris attack in the second half scoring 12 of his 17 points. G-MU led by one at halftime and was in a two possession game until late in the fourth.
“I know we didn’t win, but from the first time we played them to this time, to be in the game for 3 1/2 quarters shows we have improved tremendously,” Bonczkowski said.
Mickenson Clune scored 12 to lead G-MU and Nate O’Hara added 10. G-MU plays at Laurens Friday.
