GREENE – A single goal was all Greene needed to capture its fifth annual tournament Saturday night against Sherburne-Earlville.

Luke Day ran onto Liam Allport's through ball, and Day was able to put away the one-on-one play with S-E keeper Keith Rose.

That was the lone instance in which the unbeaten Trojans solved Rose, who came away with 16 saves. "Rose had an outstanding game for them, and he made at least four incredible saves," said Greene coach Rick Tallman.

Greene advanced to the finals winning a hard-fought battle over Whitney Point, 2-1, Friday.

After a scoreless first half, Kevin Halsteter scored just 2:48 into the second half, and Scott Lord netted the eventual winning goal 12 minutes later.

"We struggled to produce a lot of quality shots in the first half, but we kept going, we focused in the second half, and I was impressed with that," Tallman said.

Sherburne-Earlville advanced to the finals winning a penalty kick shootout over G-MU. Both clubs failed to score through 80 minutes of regulation play and 20 minutes of overtime.

S-E won the shootout 4-3 with Max Britton converting the decisive penalty kick.

Whitney Point defeated G-MU 5-0 in the consolation game.

Josh Behr had the lone OV goal in the first half.

"We struggled with communication and making passes in the first half," said OV coach Jake Preston. "In the second half, Jason Olin and Matt Neal came off the bench, and we made an instant improvement."

Olin was credited with two assists in the second half, and Neal added the Vikes' final tally.

The defense, led by Vikings keeper Coleman O'Hara, recorded its first shutout of the season.

The matchup was a reunion of two coaches, Preston of OV and Matt Dorman of Oxford, who played high school soccer together at Cincinnatus. "It was like bringing back the old days," Preston said.

Field Hockey

Greene 2, Harpursville 0

GREENE – Greene won its second straight game holding Harpursville to just one shot in Friday's shutout.

Jessica Kehoe moved up from her center back position to connect on the first goal after a penalty corner insert from Laura Durdon. Durdon added the second tally off a double assist from eighth-grader McKenna Sergi and Skylar Gilmore.

The Trojans were playing on grass for the first time this season, and showed improved passing skills. "It's a slower game (than playing on turf), but we did some good things that we haven't done yet, and that was a positive," said Greene coach Sue Carlin. "We were getting some deep passes behind the defense and trying to get that through ball."

Greene hosts Whitney Point Tuesday.

Summary

(2-0 at half)
