NORWICH – After 20 years of service to the Norwich Police Department, Sergeant Rosario “Ross” Tumminia is set to retire from the police force.

Sgt. Tumminia began his law enforcement career on June 19, 1994 under Police Chief Robert Mason. Sgt. Tumminia graduated from the Oneida County Police Academy in February of 1995.

Current Police Chief Joseph Angelino said, “He is poised, intelligent and level headed which made him an exemplary police officer.”

Throughout his career with the Norwich Police, Tumminia was the subject of multiple commendations from both the public and internally from the police department administrators.

According to Angelino, Sgt. Tumminia is known in the community and by local law enforcement professionals as a knowledable professional.

“Sgt. Tumminia had an uncanny ability to link people, events and crimes that solved many cases, big and small, but most notably a kidnapping investigation in 2009,” said Angelino.
