SMYRNA – This Sunday, May 4, CNYJeep.org, one of the biggest jeep forums in Central New York, will stop for lunch at 1 p.m. at the Smyrna Country Store & Deli. The stop is part of the forum's Spring Fling Mud Run, which is an opportunity for the group to drive on seasonal roads and state lands throughout Central New York.
“CNYJeep.org is a family oriented off-roading club that believes in having some safe off-roading fun and enjoying the company of those just like you who might understand what the JEEP thing really is,” states the CNYJeep.org website.
On Sunday the group will drive on seasonal roads near Smyrna and in and around the Brookfield Trail System.
“I'm really looking forward to it because I'm a Jeep lover,” said Bonnie Page, owner of the store.
Both of her sons will participate in the Spring Fling Mud Run. Page expects up to 30 people for lunch and members will be able to order from the standard menu. Anyone is welcome to come for lunch and to see the Jeeps.
Page began renting the store last March and purchased it in October 2013.
“I wanted to keep the store going for the community,” said Page. “It was about to close, that's the reason why I decided to come in and run the store.”
Page has done more than just “keep the store going.” The store recently received a much-needed face lift with a whole new facade and a new metal-worked sign.
Page has worked hard to stick with the tradition of the store, while expanding her offerings to meet customer demand. Food is made fresh at the store and ranges from burgers and cheesy fries to pulled pork, chili, subs and sandwiches.
“There is quite a variety to choose from,” said Page. “We try to stay with that down home country type cooking.”
She explained that the store works as a general/convenience store with items such as food and drinks to County Line sporting goods and bait 'n tackle for sale.
“Many people say this should be a museum,” said Page and explained that the store is eclectic and full of history because there are many antiques on display.
