Norwich Tennis Takes Sole Posession Of First Place

Norwich takes sole possesion of first place after winning htree in a row and defeating Windsor 6-2 Friday.

Norwich changed their line up a bit and earned two wins from players new to the spots.

Norwich plays a solid home match with Owego on Monday and is looking to make it four wins in a row.

“This is a good match for everybody to come down and watch some good tennis,” said Norwich varsity tennis head coach John Stewart, “we are looking to extend our streak and looking to be the number one seed in East Central.”

Baseball

Sidney 7, Bainbridge Guilford 5

Sidney scored two runs in the sixth inning to take a home win over Bainbridge-Guilford Friday.

The sixth inning was the determining factor after Sidney scored four in the first and B-G responded with four runs in the third inning.

With one out in the sixth Pat Vibbard doubled, winding up on third after a wild pitch.

Vibbard scored on a sacrifice fly that could have easily ended in a double play.

Haskins popped the ball up to the first base line and B-G’s first baseman made the catch, running into the fence.

He threw to home and Vibbard was called safe on a very close play at the plate.

Billy Kozak singled, stole second and advanced to score after consecutive wild pitches.

Kozak was hit in the mouth early in the game was removed from play.

He reentered later in the game to play left field, where he would make a game changing impact.

“He made two outstanding catches in left field (and) probably saved them two runs,” said Bainbridge-Guilford varsity baseball head coach Tim Mattingly.

The Bobcats play Tuesday at Walton.

Trailing 6-3 in the top of the 7th, Jed Parker led off with a walk.

With one out, Dakota Kolvik was hit by a pitch, Austin Lewis walked to load the bases.

Nate Shackelton’s fielder's choice scored Parker, Lewis was out at second.

Kolvik scored on the throw to first.

Mason Alford's single to left field scored Shackelton.

With the score tied 6-6 and two outs, Alex Csigi relieved Josh Hurlburt.

Andrew Radke hit a double to deep center scoring Alford from first.

Austin Taylor's RBI line drive to right-center scored Radke for the winning run.

Will Martin struck out for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the 7th, Zach Lindow led off with a single, stole second, then moved to third on Joe Beckwith's groundout to the shortstop.

Lindow scored on Joe Beckwith's sacrfice fly.

Alford retired the last batter with a fly ball to right field.

Alford had two hits for UV and Kolvik scored four times.

Lindow ahd two hits and two runs for Greene.
