EVENING SUN REPORT
Baseball
Seton 5, Norwich 1
BINGHAMTON– In an
evenly matched game at
NYSEG Stadium, with only
one error, two future college
pitchers battled as Seton
overcame Norwich.
Seton pitcher Michael
Korchak threw a complete
game, striking out 13, allowing
only four hits and one
earned run, he is committed
to play at Bucknell next
year.. Norwich ace, Cody
Barnes had nine strikeouts in
five innings and allowed just
three hits, he is committed to
play for Division II
Lemoyne next season.
Defending Class C State
Champions, Seton, scored
five runs on five hit by moving
their baserunners, stealing
four bases on Thursday.
Barnes gave up his hits early
in the game and walked
three batters as Seton scored
on a passed ball and a balk.
“We played solid baseball,
obviously we want to win
but we’re happy with the
way we played. I was happy,
the stuff we did wrong is fixable,”
said Norwich varsity
baseball head coach Rich
Turnbull.
Seton’s Neil McCormack
went 3-3 with a double and a
triple, two runs scored and
two RBI. He will be Barnes’
teammate next year at
LeMoyne. Norwich plays at
NYSEG Stadium annually
and the size of the outfield
lead to some spectacular
defensive plays. “It’s a lot
different when your playing
on a Minor League field,”
said Turnbull. Derek
Manwarren was positioned
in right center when a looper
into right field had him on
his horse. He cough the ball
on the run and collided with
the fence, that was the first
of two pretty plays in the
outfield. Centerfielder Josh
Haynes made a harrowing
diving catch in right-center,
the runner did not believe he
would make the play and
advanced to second without
tagging up. Haynes popped
up and gunned him out at
first in the bottom of the
sixth inning. The Tornado
plays it’s second game at
home today against Windsor
at 4:30.

Unatego 8, Oxford 2
UNATEGO–Unatego’s
three sport All-Star Kellen
Komenda threw five scoreless
innings on his way to a
win over Oxford Thursday.
The outing was not without
effort for Komenda as
the Blackhawks worked him
up to 94 pitches in those five
innings. The wide receiver
and guard, allowed two hits,
walked four and struck out
ten, he also scored two runs
for Unatego. “He threw a little
harder than what we saw
in the first couple games,”
said Oxford varsity baseball
head coach Chris Palmer.
Oxford left eight runners on
base and struggled to get
runs across home plate. “We
had two solid scoring opportunities,
we couldn’t get the
key hit to score the runs,”
said Palmer.
In the third inning
Blackhawk Jeff Lawton lead
off with a walk and ended up
on third, in scoring position.
Starting pitcher, Richard
Ryan hit a ground ball the
third base and Lawton was
caught in a run down.
Oxford failed to score. At
the start of the fifth, John
Heggie walked, Cameron
Heggie walked and with runners
on first and second, senior
catcher Matt Moore
drove a single over the centerfielders
head. The ball
dropped, but hesitance on
the part of the baserunners
failed to score a run. “We
had the bases loaded with
one out but we couldn’t cash
in,” said Palmer, “I think not
scoring there was a big
momentum change and
Unatego capitalized on that.”
Oxford (2-1) plays today at Deposit and
will travel to Florida as a team over
spring break.
