Afton – Afton rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Hancock in both clubs’

opening game of the season. Jesse Dedman hit a single

to drive in the winning run in walk off fashion Thursday

night.

“We came on later there, we actually had most of our

hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings,” said Afton

varsity baseball head coach Ron Rapp.

Connor Briggs lead off double in the seventh set the

stage for a Caleb Stevens infield hit and a Matt Olin

walk, which lead to number five hitter, Josh Austin hitting

a bases loaded pop fly to center field.

The centerfielder tried to line up the lazy fly ball, but

dropped it, he then overthrew the catcher and two

runs scored for Afton. Afton struggled early in

the match up, with only one hit in the first five innings.

“Eli had our number,” said Rapp, “We had a lot of swinging bunts... we were just really anxious with the sticks today.”
