Ahead by just three points at the break, Norwich kicked in the afterburners and left the Black Knights far behind.

“We had some shots rim in and out in the first half, and we just played really flat,” said Norwich coach Tom Collier.

With so many offensive weapons at his disposal, Collier knew it was just a matter of time before one of his players caught fire. As the second half played out, several players elevated their offensive games.

Michael Oralls scored eight points in the third quarter, Zan Stewart pumped in a pair of threes, and Mike Sutton scored five in a 24-point quarter that exceeded the Tornado’s entire first-half output.

Reserve guard Chris Trevisani padded the advantage with seven points in the fourth quarter and all nine of his markers in the second half. “We came out with intensity in the second half and played with a purpose,” Collier said. “Everyone played well in the third quarter.”

Oralls led three Norwich players in double figures scoring with 15 points, Stewart added 14, and Sutton had 12.

Collier said Norwich will play Elmira or Union-Endicott Wednesday in the STAC semifinals, and summed up his team’s season so far: “Sixteen and oh doesn’t happen that often.”

Norwich’s JV team finished with a 14-2 record and a STAC Central title beating Windsor, 76-60. Jordan Vinal just missed a triple-double scoring 19 points grabbing 15 rebounds, and adding nine assists and three blocked shots, Chris Jeffrey had 17 points, while Tre Bonham and Jake Walsh scored 12 points apiece.

Madison 62, Otselic Valley 46

SOUTH OTSELIC – Madison had too much offense for Otselic Valley as four of its players scored in double figures in Thursday’s win.

“They were just a little quicker than us, especially on the offensive end,” said Otselic Valley coach Dave Loomis. “They have some good shooters, and were able to get shots. “We’ve struggled putting up points all season, and that held true tonight.”

Matt Neal’s 15 points topped OV, and Tyler Armstrong scored 14. The Vikings play Tyburn Academy Saturday at Cayuga Community College.

Lucas Butcher canned five free throws in the last quarter on his way to a 17-point night, and Kyle Hanvey was 4-for-4 from behind the free throw line. Hanvey added 10 points for B-G, who lost to the Crimson Knights twice this season.

“This was the first complete game we have put together in a while,” said B-G coach Greg Warren. “The kids were excited about it, and it was nice to execute a game plan. Lucas played great tonight, but we had great effort from everyone.”
