SHERBURNE – Rome Free Academy’s depth and pressure offense led it to a 95-84 S-E Tournament championship game victory over Unadilla Valley Saturday night.

All-tournament pick Lindell Reed scored 31 points for RFA, and the Tigers outscored UV 35-24 in the final period. “They substitute one good athlete after another, and they just wore us down in the fourth quarter,” said UV coach Matt Osborne.

UV shot 57 percent from the field, and made up a nine-point deficit to tie the game at the end of the third quarter. Eight turnovers in the final quarter, though, worked against the Storm’s victory hopes.

Nate Shackleton had a career-high 30 points to top UV (2-1), and David Dufresne added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Host Sherburne-Earlville claimed the consolation game beating Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, 57-36.

S-E controlled play at the start of the game and the start of the second half outscoring V-V-S by a combined 40-9 in those two periods. During a 25-5 third quarter, Austin Jasper scored seven points, Elijah Morris scored six, while Kevin Vibbard Jr. and Ben Khoury had five apiece. “We shared the ball, and if we can do that, we’ll be fine,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard Sr.. “We saw some things from Friday’s game (an 80-68 loss to RFA) that we need to address, and we’ll take care of those in practice.”

Jasper scored 13 to lead the Marauders (2-1), and Morris finished with 11 points.

Friday, Unadilla Valley turned a nine-point deficit into a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter to advance to the tourney finals with a 73-63 win over V-V-S.

Nick Metzger hit two threes early in the fourth to help V-V-S expand its one-point lead to nine. The Storm battled back with Dufresne, Brett Hanslmaier, Nick White, and Shackleton all scoring at least six in a 30-point final quarter. Dufresne had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Shackleton scored 17, White had 11 points and six steals, and Hanslmaier scored 11 points as well.

After leading much of the game, S-E faded in the final quarter as RFA advanced with a 12-point win.

RFA's Blake Haga had 15 of his 21 points in the second half to lead the Knights into the title game.

Jasper scored 21 to lead S-E and Morris had 15.

McGraw 58, Otselic Valley 30

SOUTH OTSELIC - McGraw was tough out of the box ripping through the OV defense to create a 23-4 advantage in Friday's victory over the Vikings.

"They're really good have almost everyone back from a team that was pretty good last year," said OV coach Dave Loomis. "They play with a great deal of intensity, move the ball well, and take good shots."

Tyler Armstrong was the bright spot on the OV side finishing with 17 points and 20 rebounds. "Tyler had a good game, we just couldn't get enough to go along with him," Loomis said.

Otselic Valley plays at Brookfield Wednesday.

COPES CORNERS - Edmeston's veteran experience helped the visiting Panthers establish firm command early in Friday's win over the Raiders.

Logan Vibbard scored 16 points and Brandon Fallon had 12 as Edmeston limited G-MU to just a single bucket in the first half.

G-MU scored all but two of its points in a strong third quarter, but again was held without a point in the final quarter. "We moved the ball better and played much better defense in the second half," said G-MU coach Matt Johnson.

G-MU hosts Delhi today.
