The decisive goal came from Jordan Van Althuis, who hit from long range just eight minutes into the second half. "It was a great team effort and it's a proud moment for S-E soccer," Davis said.

S-E moves on to play an undetermined opponent later this week in Section III playoff action.

The Trojans (9-5-1) built a three-goal halftime lead en route to the win. "Everyone was passing and working well together," said Greene coach Brandy Stone. "We made some nice passes to Paige, and she had some nice passes to her teammates to open things up."

General Brown 4, Sherburne-Earlville 2

SHERBURNE – A slow start proved catastrophic to S-E's postseason hopes.

General Brown scored two goals within the game's first six minutes, and twice built three-goal leads in eliminating the Marauders from the Section III playoffs Tuesday.

David Vodicka scored two goals in the first half for General Brown, who led 3-1 at halftime, and built a 4-1 lead early in the second half.

"We picked the worst time to have our worst defensive game," said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. "To General Brown's credit, Vodicka was a little faster than we thought, and he worked hard to earn his goals."

Kevin Vibbard scored late in the first half for S-E to stem the tide, but the Marauders did not score again until Elijah Morris' goal with seven minutes left in the game. "We were able to possess and move the ball, but we had trouble putting it away," Rodriguez said. "Kevin had a great game and Elijah had his moments, we just needed a few more guys to step up."

S-E finishes the season with a 10-7 mark.

Summary

(3-1 at half)
