WEST WINFIELD – Sherburne-Earlville won comfortably for the third straight week, although head coach Mike Jasper felt his club should have put more points on the board.

Brady Sopchak ran for a season-high 142 yards, Ben Khoury, Brodie Roebuck, and Garrett DuVall had TD runs, and quarterback Cody Marango hit Austin Jasper on a TD pass to account for the Marauders’ scoring.

Two other drives headed toward the endzone, though, were squashed by fumbles, one at the one-yard line.

“We were a little sloppier than we needed to be, and had some untimely penalties,” Jasper said. “That will hurt us against the good teams, but beyond that, we held them under 100 yards rushing, and offensively, we were able to do a lot of things. We still have to be more precise, and maybe that’s the perfectionist in me.”

The Marauders marched for a TD on their first possession with Khoury, a receiver, scoring from 30 yards out on an end-around. Cody Marango’s 15-yard TD toss to Jasper made it 12-0, but a defensive breakdown allowed the Mustangs to cut that lead in half. Mark Panbillo scored on a 42-yard quick-hitter making it 12-6 late in the half. S-E regained its 12-point lead by halftime on DuVall’s one-yard plunge.

While S-E threatened to turn the game into a rout, it had to settle for Roebuck 11-yard TD scamper in the third as its only second-half points. Overall, the Marauders piled up 359 yards rushing and finished with 404 yards of total offense.

Friday, S-E hosts fellow unbeaten Frankfort-Schuyler, who has put up over 50 points in two of its three victories.

Deposit-Hancock 26, Bainbridge-Guilford 14

HANCOCK - Dylan Moffitt’s career day running the ball was not enough for the Bobcats as they suffered their third straight defeat Friday at Deposit-Hancock.

Moffitt, who took on a more prominent role in the offense in week two due to the injury of starting quarterback Cole Webb, toted the ball 31 times for 230 yards and one score. Moffitt helped his club pare a three-TD deficit to 21-14 early in the fourth scoring on a 30-yard run, and teammate Nick Decker recovered an Eagles fumble in the end zone for the second score.

Deposit-Hancock secured its second win of the season with its potent passing-receiving combo. Matt Mills threw his third TD pass of the game to Matt Macumber, the last of those covering four yards to raise the lead back to 12.

Mills missed just one pass in eight attempts throwing for 138 yards. The Eagles also ran for 133 yards against an improved B-G run defense.

B-G finished with a season-high 302 yards of total offense, most of those coming from Moffitt.
