Norwich 97, Susquehanna Valley 83

NORWICH – Few of Norwich’s swimmers were entered in their best events, but that mattered little Friday night against visiting Susquehanna Valley.

Five Tornado swimmers beat previous-best times, said head coach Kevin Diefenbacher, and the Sabers had just two wins, one of those coming in diving where the host club did not have an entry.

“The main thing in a meet like this is to find out how far our depth goes,” Diefenbacher said. “We move swimmers around to off events, and then we can find out if we can use them there if necessary.”

Marybeth Ward, Erin Gawronski, and Ravyn Benedict won two individual events apiece. Danika Tworkowsky and Alexis Laundry also captured an individual event.

Canastota 3, Sherburne-Earlville 2

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville played its best first half of the season to build a two-goal halftime lead, but was unable to maintain that momentum in a loss to Canastota Friday.

The Raiders’ Allison Malhout scored back-to-back goals in the second half less than 3 ½ minutes apart early in the second half, and Morgan Lynd tallied the game-winner with just 2:44 remaining.

Taylor Jordan opened the scoring for S-E just 1:34 into play getting an assist from Alexa Bates, and Emma Hodges scored unassisted with 8:14 to go in the first 30-minute period.

“We came out on fire, We really pushed the offense and made them scramble,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “Everything just fell into place, but we ran out of steam. They have a big bench, and were able to run us into the ground in the second half. It was our third game in four days, and we didn’t have enough left.”
