Unadilla Valley blanks Purple Tornado

Unadilla Valley 5, Norwich 0

NORWICH – David Schwab began his hat trick against Norwich just two minutes into the game as Unadilla Valley blanked the Purple Tornado Tuesday afternoon.

Schwab scored on a breakaway after getting a through pass from Johnny Schermerhorn. The Schwab-Schermerhorn combo worked again 22 minutes later. C.J. Hayes converted a second-half goal on a one-touch volley after a pass from Shaun Hager. UV goalie Kyle King moved to the field in the second half, and completed the Storm’s scoring with Jared Hanslmaier providing the assist.

King had seven saves and backup keeper Nate Shackelton made one to combine on the shutout.

OXFORD – Oxford hopped off the winless train picking up a shutout victory over Afton Tuesday afternoon.

Jeff Lawton scored in the game’s opening minutes getting a crossing pass from sophomore Kevin Davis. Oxford had far better scoring opportunities throughout the game, but Afton net-minder Matt Olin made at least three goal-saving stops.

“We knew coming into the game that it would be a tight one, and a good opportunity to get our first win,” said Oxford coach Matt Dorman. “I didn’t know what to expect, and we definitely needed this.”

Oxford visits Walton Friday.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Richfield Springs broke a 1-1 tie scoring with five minutes left in the second half to defeat G-MU Monday.

Galen Wind tallied for G-MU 9:41 into the game, and the Raiders finished with a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Girls’ Soccer

Greene 4, B-G 0

GREENE – Greene’s all-time leading scorer, Paige Wilcox, had her best performance of the season finishing with three goals and one assist in a shutout of Bainbridge-Guilford Tuesday.

Wilcox had two goals in the first half sandwiched around a tally from Jenelle Milk for the 3-0 halftime advantage. “Today, all of the girls played well and passed well,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone. “It’s starting to come together.”

Greene’s league record improved to 3-0 (3-1-1 overall). The Trojans play at Walton Thursday.

Sherburne-Earlville 6, Holland Patent 3

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville’s dominant opening half carried it to a victory over Holland Patent Tuesday.

Savannah Irwin scored the first of her two goals two minutes into the game, one of four first-half goals for the Marauders. Sierra Barker scored 14 minutes after Irwin’s first goal, Irwin netted her second goal with eight minutes left in the period, and Gemma Godfrey helped create a wide first-half bulge with the first of her two goals.

S-E travels to Central Valley Academy Thursday.

NORWICH - Ashley Connelly scored the first of her four goals 16 minutes into the game, and JC built a three-goal halftime lead in Tuesday’s win at Norwich.

Mallory Mirabito had a second-half goal for Norwich, who was outshot 23-4. “We had some opportunities in the game, we just had trouble executing,” said Norwich coach Felicia Tynan. “Johnson City’s players communicated well, and they passed with ease and often.”

Norwich is at Oneonta today.
