Norwich 5, Owego 2
NORWICH - Norwich coach John Stewart said his team needed a fast start against Owego, and that is exactly what happened.
Norwich won the first set in all seven matchups, and despite stern resistance from the Indians the rest of the way, improved its record to 3-0 on the season. Norwich won two of three doubles matches - both in three sets – and three of the four singles matches had sets decided by a tiebreaker. “They beat us both times last year, and they’re as competitive a team as we are,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “We wanted to come out and dominate the first sets, and that’s exactly what we did.”
Stewart enjoyed the first-set wins, but knew a team victory required a bit more work. Breanna Cashman, Makenzie Maynard, and Caroline Stewart, the second, third, and fourth singles players respectively, all rallied from big deficits to pull out sets. Maynard’s and Stewart’s rallies came in the second set to close out team points.
“We played really hard again, and I was proud of how the girls competed today,” Stewart said.

B-G 3, Oxford 0
OXFORD – It was an improved performance for Oxford, who nonetheless dropped a three-goal shutout loss to B-G.
Zach Smith scored the first of his two goals after a defensive misclear to give the Bobcats the early lead. Daniel Norris also scored for B-G in the win. “We moved the ball a lot better than our first game, and it was definitely back and forth today,” said Oxford coach Matt Dorman. “We’re a young team, but I can see we are starting to click.”
The Blackhawks host Otselic Valley Monday.

Sherburne-Earlville 2, Adirondack 0
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville snagged its first win of the season Thursday afternoon scoring a pair of first-half goals in a shutout of Adirondack.
Kevin Vibbard tallied 25 minutes into the game putting away a rebound following a scramble in front of the Adirondack net. Five minutes later, S-E senior Elijah Morris was taken down just outside the 18-yard box. Given a free kick, Morris bent a beautifully placed shot around the Adirondack wall and into the upper corner of the net for the insurance tally.
First-year Marauders goalie Keith Rose made three saves for his first shutout.
The Marauders face Clinton on Saturday.
