One Dead Following Fatal Fire In Guilford

By: Kevin Doonan

CHENANGO COUNTY – A fatal fire last night claimed the life an as-of-yet unidentified man at a trailer home located at 209 Joslyn Road, Guilford.

The Guilford Fire Department responded to the fire – first reported at approximately 11:40 p.m., with mutual aid requested and received from Oxford and the Chenango County Bureau of Fire.

The fire is currently being investigated by the Chenango County Bureau of Fire and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, reported Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew Beckwith. The name of the deceased will be released once the Sheriff’s Office has received a positive ID following an autopsy – and once the unidentified man’s next of kin have been notified – the autopsy scheduled to be performed later today in Binghamton.

At this time, no foul play is suspected, although authorities are still awaiting the results of tests from samples collected by firefighters at the scene, said Chenango County Undersheriff James Lloyd. No other injuries were reported.
