After B-G surged in front by one with two unearned runs in the fifth, S-E replied with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead for good. Jess Lathrop’s bunt single scored pinch-runner Brandy Harmon with the tying run, and Lexi Paul’s RBI single scored Lathrop to make it 9-8.

Winning pitcher Emma Hodges allowed just one baserunner over the final two innings to pick up the victory. Savannah Irwin had three htis and two RBI, Lexi Paul had two hits and two RBI, and Lathrop finished 2-for-3.

Taylor Lamont had two runs scored for B-G.

S-E (6-9) plays at Canastota Thursday.

Hancock 9, Greene 1

HANCOCK – A break went Hancock’s way in the top of the sixth, and the Wildcats stretched their lead out with six runs in the bottom of the sixth in Tuesday’s win over Greene.

The Trojans closed the gap in the sixth to 3-1 when Lane Whittaker singled in a run. With runners on first and second and one out, Greene batter Alex Csigi was seemingly hit on the helmet by Hancock hurler Tyler Phillips. A dead ball was not ruled, though, and Greene’s lead baserunner was thrown out attempted to advance to third base.

“I would have liked to have seen how things played out if a dead ball was called on that play and we had the bases loaded,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt.

Hancock drew four walks and a fifth batter reached on an error to answer Greene’s brief rally, and Eli Holton hit a base-clearing three-run double.

Of note, Whittaker, a senior for Greene, hit safely in all 13 of Greene’s league games this season. The Trojans (10-8) are idle until the Section IV playoffs.

Afton 11, Delhi 6

AFTON - Afton closed the 2013 season with its fifth victory jumping out on Delhi in the opening inning.

The Bulldogs committed eight errors, three of those in the Crimson Knights’ four-run first. Matt Olin added an RBI single to cap the uprising.

“The errors were definitely the difference in the game, but we did put the ball in play today,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We were pretty aggressive on the basepaths, and we tried to keep the pressure on.”

Jesse Dedman had two hits and one RBI for Afton (5-14), and Josh Davy along with Connor Graven-Briggs scored two runs each.
