Brandon Bessett had two hits and two RBI for Sidney, Billy Kozak scored two runs and drove in another, and Trey Crawford’s single in the fifth made it a 5-1 Sidney lead.

Chenango Valley 6, Norwich 3

NORWICH - Chenango Valley had back-to-back two-run innings in the fourth and fifth frames to erase Norwich’s two-run lead Monday afternoon.

Eric Silvanic and Chris Ruffo had RBI hits to tie the game, and Colby Ross’s double plated the go-ahead run. Ross had three hits for CV and John Shear went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Norwich was hampered out of the gate when starting pitcher – and staff ace – Cody Barnes was injured on his 10th pitch of the game when a hit up the middle connected with his pitching wrist. Chris Trevisani, coming in cold, pitched 6 1-3 innings of solid relief in Barnes’ stead. “It’s kind of shocking for a team when its ace goes down,” said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. “The X-rays were negative, and Cody will be fine.”

Josh Haines tripled in the seventh for Norwich and scored on Cody Graves’ hit. Norwich hosts Susquehanna Valley Friday.

Chenango Valley 9, Norwich 3

NORWICH – Norwich cut Chenango Valley’s runs in half from its first meeting, but still took it on the chin against the Warriors in Monday’s contest.

CV leadoff hitter Chelsea Hennige, who rattled Norwich for four hits in the first meeting (an 18-8 win), went 3-for-4 including a homer to lead off the game and two total RBI. Briana Stinson doubled and scored in the first inning helping the Warriors to the early lead.

Shannon Moore doubled twice and drove in a run for Norwich, while Kassidy Seary and Jordan Sanford drove in Norwich’s other runs. Molly Moore also had two hits for Norwich. “I was happy with the way we played other than the errors,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “We didn’t score as many, but we hit the ball hard, and they made a couple of nice catches against us.”

Norwich hosts Johnson City today.
