“They were really good, and they threw their best guy today,” said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. “We made too many errors, and lot of bad things happen from errors from making you pitcher throw more pitches, to putting your defense in bad situations.”

Dominik Forbidussi had three hits and two RBI for CV, and Colby Ross also drove in two runs. Norwich scored its lone run in the fourth when Cody Barnes doubled home Colby Griffin.

BAINBRIDGE – B-G’s big early lead stood up to a late comeback from Afton in the Bobcats’ second victory this season.

B-G scored three runs in each of the first three innings to grab a 9-0 lead. Corbin Palmer hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and starting pitcher Devon Rivera, playing competitive baseball for the first time since middle school, tossed three shutout innings.

Afton rallied with six runs in the sixth closing the deficit to two runs. The Crimson Knights were aided by eight B-G errors. “We just couldn’t put Afton away, and after we got the early lead, but got a little flat and played that way,” Mattingly said.

Josh Davy and Ricky Parsons had 2-for-4 days to lead Afton.

Worcester 2, G-MU 1

WORCESTER – Aggressive baserunning allowed Worcester to score the decisive run in Monday afternoon’s victory over G-MU.

An infield groundout scored Worcester’s Bobby Rundblad with the initial run, and on the play, the runner at second base came around to score narrowly beating a throw home. “They put pressure on us to make a play, and he just beat the tag,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein.

Tim French doubled in the fourth for G-MU, and he came home on Rian West’s RBI single. Losing pitcher Austin Burnside allowed just two hits and struck out six. It was a big improvement for G-MU who committed nine errors in Saturday’s loss to Afton.

“If you look at us today versus Saturday, it was a totally different team out there,” Mohrein said. “We still have a lot of young guys out there with limited varsity experience, but I think we’ll get better.”

Dan Primrose had two hits for the Raiders, who play at Edmeston today.

Chenango Valley 18, Norwich 8

FENTON - Norwich was unable to match the hitting of Chenango Valley Monday as the Warriors banged out 19 hits, and pulled away with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Emily Hammond hit a two-run homer for CV, and Chelsea Henige finished with four hits. “We started pretty well, but they caught up in a hurry,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “We stayed with them through four innings, but they opened it up in the fifth. They were hitting the cover off the ball most of the game, then they went to some small ball in the fifth, and that caught us off guard.”

Shannon Moore and Krista Barrows had two hits apiece for Norwich with Moore hitting a three-run homer in the first inning.
