Speculation Rampant Over Identity Of Body

By: Brian Golden

NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has yet to confirm the identity of a woman whose body was found Tuesday evening off Center Road in the Town of Pharsalia, although administrators on one of two Facebook pages dedicated to Jennifer L. Ramsaran, missing since Dec. 11, have reported the body as that of the 36-year-old mother of three.

According to Chenango County Undersheriff James Lloyd, investigators are still waiting for the results of an autopsy performed yesterday at the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office in Syracuse, and Ramsaran’s family, including husband Ganesh Remy Ramsaran, have been notified of the body’s discovery. Mrs. Ramsaran’s dental records, secured by the Sheriff’s Office, were also transported to Syracuse, he added.

Jennifer Ramsaran was last seen by her husband the morning of Dec. 11 and was planning a trip to Destiny USA to do some holiday shopping, according to Remy Ramsaran, who – later that evening – reported her missing. Her cell phone was located by her husband the following day by utilizing the “Find my iPhone” application, near state Route 23 and Moon Hill Road in the Town of Plymouth; her 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan discovered by her father, Thomas Renz, just days later at Plank Road Manor, Plymouth Street, in the City of Norwich.

Two Facebook pages dedicated to finding the missing woman, one by the name of “Jennifer L. Ramsaran - Missing Person” and the other called “Help Find Jennifer Ramsaran,” have offered conflicting reports on the status of the case. The first, run by Remy Ramsaran and Cynthia Caron of LostNMissing, a national non-profit focused on locating missing persons, ceased posting others’ remarks to the site for a time yesterday and stated, “There has been no official ruling as to the identification of the female body located in Pharsalia, NY,” while the cover photo at “Help Find Jennifer Ramsaran” shows, “May the angels in heaven wrap their wings around you to welcome you home ... RIP.”

Dozens of people have commented on the second site since, posting their condolences to the family of Jennifer Ramsaran, and several posts claim that Ramsaran’s family has been informed that the body was indeed that of the missing mother. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, however, has yet to release any official confirmation on the identity of the body found in Pharsalia, as well as any cause of death.

“We still don’t know if it’s Jen or not and from the beginning, you always know law enforcement has more information; somebody knows something and I still can’t wrap my whole mind around this,” said Remy Ramsaran this morning. “This is my wife of 18 years, the mother of our three children.”
