Sherburne-Earlville 74, Clinton 42

CLINTON - Sherburne-Earlville’s high-powered offense blew away a hot Clinton club Monday evening.

Jordan Van Althuis had 22 points and freshman Savannah Irwin 21. Irwin hit three threes in the third quarter, and Van Althuis matched that total with three more in the fourth as the Marauders scored 47 points in the second half.

“I was little worried coming into the game because Clinton had come off a few wins and was playing well,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We were missing some chippie shots in the first half, and I said if we made those in the second half, we could blow it open. Mikayla (Solloway) did a nice job feeding Lilly (Berg) inside from the high post, and when their defense sagged, Savannah and Jordan were hitting from the outside.”

Berg added 14 points and Solloway 11. The Marauders’ defense also held Clinton’s leading scorer, Elyssa Hapanowicz, to just seven points. “Hapanowicz had been scoring a lot more per game than what she had tonight,” Mulligan said. “Jordan and Katherine (Robertson) did a good job frustrating her and holding her down.”
