Unadilla Valley 55, Unatego 52
OTEGO – Unadilla Valley completed a perfect 11-0 run through the Midstate Athletic Conference, and it earned the top seed in this week’s league tournament beating the Spartans Friday night on the road.
Taylor Davis hit three three-pointers and led the Storm (13-1) with 18 points. Amanda Off scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, and Jordan Anderson contributed 11. UV’s big three offset the season-high scoring night of Unatego’s Casey Manzanero, who finished with 27.
“Both teams definitely match up well,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “A big key for us was the rebounding. Unatego had a ton of offensive rebounds in the first half, but we were much more aggressive in the second half.”
Trailing to start the fourth quarter, UV used a big spurt midway through the final quarter to create its biggest lead, 49-43. Emily Converse, Off, Davis, and Anderson all came up with big baskets to hold off the Spartans.
“We went to Harpursville and beat them, and Unatego is a really good team, and we beat them on their home floor,” Backus said. “In both games, we came from behind. (My team) has shown up in the big games, and they know how to take control in the end.”

Norwich 38, Chenango Forks 19
NORWICH – Norwich locked down on the defensive end the final three quarters of the game, and doubled up Chenango Forks on senior recognition night Saturday.
Chenango Forks led early, 7-4, but a 10-0 NHS run midway through the first quarter gave the host club the lead for keeps. Shelby Benjamin had a three-point play during the salvo, Carin Kuhn made three of four free throws, and Jenni Borfitz capped the spurt canning a three off a dish from senior Cassie Sutton.
Megan Plahanski hit a three for Chenango Forks with 1:42 left in the opening quarter. The next 25-plus minutes, Forks made just four baskets. “We played great defensively, and one thing this team has done is play multiple defenses and execute them all very well,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett.
Borfitz had 13 points and three steals in the win, and Breanna Cashman hit for 11 points to go with 10 boards. Norwich shot just 28 percent from the field, a total that was a bit deceptive, Bennett said. “I thought we played great on offense,” Bennett said. “We moved the ball well and executed on offense. There just seemed to be a lid on the basket.”

Sherburne-Earlville 64, Mount Markham 33
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville secured its second-place standing in the Center State Conference blowing out Mount Markham early Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kelsie Christian scored all eight of her points in the first quarter leading her club to a 22-5 advantage.
The Marauders showed exemplary balance in the scoring column. Savannah Irwin finished with an even dozen to lead the way, Mikayla Solloway added 11, while Lilly Berg and Jordan Van Althuis split 20 points down the middle.
“We were getting our subs in and out through the game,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “We shared the ball, and it helped that we were shooting the ball well from the start.”
Van Althuis added six assists and five steals for S-E, who play at Clinton tonight.
