Mt. Upton Church Hosts ‘Souper Bowl Sunday’ Fundraiser

MT. UPTON – On Sunday Feb. 3, nearly 140 million Americans are anticipated to tune in to watch the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fun. And at that same time, across America some people will be worrying about staying warm having healthy food to serve their families. Since 1990, faith-based organizations have joined together to use this day to raise awareness and fight hunger in the “Souper Bowl of Caring” by asking our local communities to help fill our Food Pantries. All we are asking is that you consider donating $1 or more or bringing non-perishable food donations to our church. The church will be open to receive donations from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on February 3. It is a simple, yet significant act of caring for your neighbors.

In conjunction with the Souper Bowl collection, the Mt. Upton Food Pantry is announcing a change in our Food Pantry availability to better serve those who regularly utilize our pantry. Starting Feb. 9, the Mt. Upton Food Pantry, located in the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church, will be open on the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a free soup and sandwich meal available to anyone in the community. The Food Pantry will also be open on the third Tuesday of the month, from 2 to 4 p.m.. We ask those who utilize the Food Pantry plan to come to the church during the times the pantry is open and, if possible, bring reusable bags to carry their food home. Emergency needs will be handled on an individual basis by calling the church at 607-764-8536.
