Holland Patent 70, Sherburne-Earlville 58

HOLLAND PATENT – State-ranked Holland Patent used a big fourth quarter to finally shake Sherburne-Earlville in Wednesday night’s game.

Allison Freiermuth scored 22 points for HP and Alyssa Curtis added 19. The host club trailed a short-handed S-E club by one point entering the final quarter, and S-E lost two starters to fouls during the last eight minutes. “I think the turning point for us was when Mikayla (Solloway) fouled out,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan. “She was making some great high post passes to Lilly (Berg), and it seemed like Lilly was making basket after basket.”

Berg had a team-high 23 pionts and Jordan Van Althuis added 14. The Marauders were without starter Savannah Irwin, who averages 11 points per game. “It’s hard to say what would have happened if Savannah was there,” Mulligan said. “I was proud of the way we played tonight, and we were in the game the whole way. I think this definitely gives us some confidence and know we can play with anyone.”
